In New York State you may take part in a defensive driving program to remove points from your license, lower your insurance rates, and to reduce your overall driving risk. Upon completion of the course you will receive a certificate and the DMV is usually notified automatically, although you should verify this with the course administrator. Some classes meet in person, some are entirely online where you can set your own pace. Some even guarantee that you will pass, so there is no risk.
